Co-medical directors named at Westmed Medical Group
Physicians Richard Morel and Steven Meixler have been appointed co-medical directors at Westmed Medical Group following the recent retirement of Dr. Barney Newman as the multispecialty group practice”™s longtime medical director.
Both physicians also serve as vice presidents of the 310-physician Westmed practice headquartered in Purchase.
Morel, who is board-certified in internal medicine, joined Westmed in 2008 after 12 years in a private practice affiliated with Columbia-Presbyterian Riverdale. He is affiliated with White Plains Hospital.
He received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his post-graduate training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. He also received a master of medical management degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
Morel is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American College of Physician Executives.
Meixler is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine, and served as chief of the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine and as director of the internal medicine department at White Plains Hospital, where he is affiliated.
A graduate of Boston University School of Medicine, Meixler was chief medical resident during his training at the Manhattan VA/New York University Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital Center.
Meixler is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Thoracic Society.
Newman retired on June 30 after 16 years as medical director at Westmed. He and Dr. Simeon A. Schwartz, president and CEO of Westmed, co-founded the group practice, which has 10 offices in Westchester and Fairfield counties.
