Peter L. Cashman has been appointed to Connecticut Innovation”™s board of directors by Gov. M. Jodi Rell.
“Peter is an experienced entrepreneur and is well equipped to understand the challenges that early-stage technology companies face,” said Rell in a prepared statement. “He brings extensive business experience in the technology and investment sectors to this post, and Connecticut Innovations will benefit from his vast knowledge. Peter will help CI to create jobs in Connecticut.”
Cashman is presently chairman of Cashman Computer Associates L.L.C. based in Old-Lyme, a computer technology solution provider. He also manages a variety of private investment funds. He has previously served as chairman and CEO for Environmental Data Resources Inc., an environmental risk information company that he founded, and as chairman and CEO of the Sanborn Map Company.Â
Cashman was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Information Industry Association in 1995 for his leadership at Environmental Data Resources. He was previously president and co-founder of BCA Environmental Services Inc., a manufacturer of pollution control equipment and provider of environmental consulting and laboratory services, and served as executive vice president of York Research Corporation.
His service to Connecticut includes a 1970s”™ term as lieutenant governor under former Gov. Thomas J. Meskill, as well as posts including state senator and president pro-tem of the Connecticut Senate. Cashman currently serves on CI”™s Eli Whitney Advisory Committee, which evaluates and analyzes proposed investments. He previously served on the Clean Energy Advisory Committee, advising the CI board of directors on matters related to the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.
Cashman is a long-time resident of Fairfield. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American studies from Yale University.
