Calico, the decorative fabric and custom design services retailer, has opened the doors of its new location at 224 Post Road East in Westport. It’s the first ”design shop” model in the 72-year history of the retail company, formerly known as Calico Corners.
“Calico is a heritage brand not only in the textile industry, but in the minds and hearts of consumers,” said Supriya Himatsingka, head of brand and design. “With this new model, we are adapting to meet the design needs of our communities and customers.”
In addition to an open layout, custom furniture on one side of the store is presented in room settings, with wallpapered walls and coordinated drapes and shades to dress the windows.
With its new store concept, Calico is aiming to show itself as not only the legacy fabric store familiar to so many, but also as a one-stop shop for custom decorating.
As people are spending more time at home, Himatsingka said, interior design projects are seeing an uptick, with a renewed consumer interest in a fine-tuned and refreshed living space.
“To help with those projects, we provide customers with a 360-degree service experience from conception to design,” she said. “We want to get to know you, to create special spaces with unique detail around your lifestyle, your tastes and your preferences.
“This Westport store is truly our store of the future,” Himatsingka said. “It”™s Calico 2021 and beyond.”
The 70-store chain also has stores in Wilton, and in Mamaroneck and Mount Kisco, New York.
