The Business Council of Fairfield County will host its sixth annual “Healthy Workplace Employer Recognition Program” Friday, Feb. 14, at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel. Presented by the council”™s Wellness Roundtable, registration begins at 7:45 a.m. and the breakfast program runs 8:00-9:30 a.m.
The event will applaud the efforts of 27 employers “who understand the competitive advantage of a healthy workforce and who have implemented cutting edge programs to promote a healthy workplace and assist their employees to live healthier lives.”
There are three categories: Platinum, Gold and Silver, awarded on the basis of program components and outcomes.
Those recognized in the Platinum category include R.C. Bigelow (Fairfield); Contractors Register, Inc. (Jefferson Valley, N.Y.); Daymon Worldwide, Inc. (Stamford); Neopost USA (Milford); Nestlé Waters North America Inc. (Stamford); People’s United Bank (Bridgeport); Quinnipiac University (Hamden); Really Good Stuff (Monroe); Sacred Heart University (Fairfield); Sikorsky, A United Technologies Company (Stratford); Stew Leonard”™s
(Norwalk/Danbury); Tauck Inc. (Norwalk); and University of Hartford (West Hartford).
Those in the Gold category include Ability Beyond (Bethel); CBRE (Stamford); Eastern Connecticut Health Network (Manchester); Hospital for Special Care (New Britain); LAZ Parking (Stamford); Partner Reinsurance Company of the US (Greenwich); Pierson & Smith, a division of First Niagara Risk Management Inc. (Norwalk); PwC L.L.P. (Stamford); and Stepping Stones Museum for Children (Norwalk).
Those in the Silver category include The Ashforth Company (Stamford); CBP (Stamford); Masonicare (Wallingford); and Tangoe (Orange).
“In 2013, these businesses introduced accessible exercise programs like walking clubs and on-site fitness classes,” the business council said in a statement. “They used webinars to spread information on the prevention of disease. They gave their employees autonomy over how they achieve health in the office; and hosted opportunities for preventive care which, in some instances, helped workers catch and treat serious conditions they otherwise might have missed.”
Said Tanya Court, vice president for public policy for 200 member-plus council, “Health is a business issue. As costs related to health and health care escalate business has responded in a variety of ways. By recognizing the efforts of employers to promote healthy lifestyles, we hope to serve as a catalyst for other employers in both the private and public sector to take action.”
Participants from Nestlé Waters North America and Neopost (and possibly a third company) will share their best practices and recent experiences in a moderated conversation.
