BRIDGEPORT – Bridgeport Hospital, in partnership with CT Foodshare, will mark a special milestone during its November mobile food pantry.
On Nov. 26, the mobile food pantry at Bridgeport Hospital will serve its 20,000th allotment of food since the initiative began in 2019. The program, which typically serves about 200 households at each distribution, will reach this significant milestone thanks to the continued support of CT Foodshare, hospital volunteers and community partners.
“We are incredibly proud to reach this milestone,” said Gina Smith, manager of Community Health in the Office of Health Equity and Community Impact at Bridgeport Hospital, part of Yale New Haven Health. “We see firsthand how many families in our community face challenges meeting their basic needs.” Through partnerships with CT Foodshare, they’re not just addressing food insecurity, they’re helping relieve stress for families and showing them that their community cares, Smith added.
The Nov. 26 mobile food pantry will open early at 9 a.m. to accommodate the CT Foodshare offices closing early for the Thanksgiving holiday. All those in need of food are encouraged to arrive early; numbers will be handed out to those in line starting at 8:30 am.
In addition to the regular CT Foodshare allotment, attendees on Nov. 26 will receive an extra bag of shelf-stable holiday food items, thanks to the Northeast Medical Group (NEMG) Community Outreach Committee’s holiday food drive. The additional bags will be distributed while supplies last, helping families enjoy a more festive holiday meal. The Bridgeport Fire Department will also join in at this pre-holiday distribution, and their members will help distribute food.
