BRIDGEPORT – Bridgeport Hospital has been certified by the Joint Commission as a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center.
Offered in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, achieving TSC certification means a hospital meets rigorous standards for performing endovascular thrombectomy and providing post-procedural care. Recent studies have shown the efficacy of mechanical thrombectomy for large vessel occlusive ischemic strokes, according to the Joint Commission.
Bridgeport Hospital, part of Yale New Haven Health, was recently evaluated on a set of standardized performance measures for inpatient stroke care.
“The certification process is a comprehensive evaluation that ensures compliance with rigorous standards and incorporates best practices in the industry,” said Anne Diamond, president of Bridgeport Hospital. “By successfully completing this process, Bridgeport Hospital has demonstrated its dedication to delivering exceptional services and outcomes to our patients.”
The certification replaces Bridgeport Hospital’s previous designation as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission. The Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus is an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital.
“As soon as a stroke occurs, brain cells start to die, which is why it is so important to act fast,” said Jennifer Reynolds, MSN, SCRN, stroke program manager at Bridgeport Hospital. “The quicker it is treated, the higher chance for little or no permanent damage. Patients are now able to get this advanced stroke treatment faster and closer to home, which translates to higher chances of doing well and possibly reducing disability after stroke.”
There are other members of the Yale New Haven Health System have received the same or similar designation from the Joint Commission. Greenwich Hospital and Lawrence + Memorial Hospital are both recognized as Advanced Primary Stroke Centers. Westerly Hospital was certified for its Acute Stroke Ready Hospital program. Yale New Haven Hospital is certified as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center.
