The State Bond Commission on Wednesday approved $5 million for the expansion of the Connecticut Technical High School System’s manufacturing programs.
The funds are for 11 schools, including two in Fairfield County, to cover the purchase and installation of equipment and machinery, alterations and improvements to buildings and grounds, and computer and technology upgrades. Bullard-Havens Technical High School in Bridgeport will receive $1 million for equipment, and Henry Abbott Technical High School in Danbury will get $30,000 for a replacement plasma cutter.
The system as a whole will receive $470,000 for upgrades to computer numerical control technology and computer-aided design labs.
“Students in our manufacturing cluster receive the technical skills and training necessary to operate complex machines and produce high-quality products,” said Nivea Torres, superintendent of the technical high school system, in a press release from the governor’s office announcing the bonding. “Today’s manufacturing jobs require specialized computer training and Connecticut’s educational system in prepared to train young people to enter this exciting field.”
