HARTFORD – The state Bond Commission last month approved a $3.5 million increase in a general obligation bond authorization for renovations to Norwalk Community College.
During its Dec. 20, 2024 meeting, the commission, which is headed by Gov. Ned Lamont, gave the go-ahead for selling $22.1 million in GO bonds to fund the alteration, renovation and improvement to the B wing building of the college. The original bond request was for $18.6 million.
Additionally, the commission cancelled $5 million in a GO bond authorization where funds are to be used to defer maintenance, code compliance and infrastructure improvements at all community colleges. That authorization is now $27.6 million. It also cut $5 million from a previous $65.2 million authorization for all state universities.
For Fairfield County municipalities, the commission went ahead with the request for $1.6 million in bond fund allocation requests for projects in New Canaan and Bridgeport.
The New Canaan Town Player Powerhouse Educational Center will receive a $100,000 grant-in-aid and the City of Bridgeport will receive a $1.5 million grant-in-aid for the Trumbull Gardens Community Center.
Statewide, a $20 million GO bond authorization the Flexible Housing Program was given the go-ahead by the Bond Commission. These funds are requested to finance loans for housing projects and programs to finance grants-in-aid or loans. These funds will provide financing for new construction and or rehabilitation of approximately 186 housing units and for immediate needs in existing housing projects, including those in the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority state housing portfolio.
