Fairfield-based Bigelow Tea Co. last month became an official sponsor of the United Service Organizations by agreeing to donate 350,00 tea bags annually to the nonprofit, commonly called the USO.
Bigelow did not put a dollar value on the donation. (A box of 20 of the company”™s popular Constant Comment tea bags on the Web is $3 to $4 without shipping.) Bigelow said the tea bags will be used to support the USO”™s ongoing mission of lifting the spirits of America”™s troops and their families.
Bigelow said the participation ensures the continuation of Bigelow”™s already existing Tea for the Troops program, launched by third-generation company President/CEO Cindi Bigelow in 2009. That program to date has donated more than 4 million tea bags to U.S. service personnel.
Bigelow Tea Co. is 70 years old and produces 1.7 million tea bags annually in more than 130 flavors.
