BIC Corporation has relocated to 1 BIC Way in Shelton, bringing with it 350 employees from Milford.
The company decided to move its administrative offices, which were located at 500 BIC Drive in Milford, after it shutdown two of its manufacturing operations. Those buildings were sold in 2005 and BIC had been leasing space for its administrative offices since that time. BIC”™s administrative offices have been based in Milford since 1963.
BIC”™s lighter manufacturing facility, with approximately 100 employees, will remain on BIC Drive in Milford.
“The Chamber is delighted to welcome BIC Corporation into Shelton and the Naugatuck Valley community,” said Bill Purcell president of Shelton Chamber of Commerce. “The company has a rich history and a strong culture of active community support and leadership. We are well aware of the company’s more than 40 years of leadership and positive influence in the City of Milford, and we are pleased that they will maintain a manufacturing operation in the Milford community.”
The new two story office building off of Research Drive is now home to BIC”™s USA consumer products business, North American operations and global category and business management operations, with a total of approximately 350 employees. The building is still under construction though it has been occupied.
“This new building which has been completely remolded from the inside out, represents a significant investment in our future,” said Rick McEttrick, president of North American operations. “Throughout the renovations, we have followed standards established by LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
“We are excited to now have operations in both Milford and Shelton,” said McEttrick. “Thanks to the efforts of approximately 100 employees, we continue to make more than one million high-quality BIC lighters each day in our facility on BIC Drive in Milford.”
“I truly admire Rick McEttrick’s open management style and the strong sense of collegiality that he has instilled among all levels of the BIC organization,” said Purcell.
