Stamford-based AmeriCares, a nonprofit that provides disaster relief worldwide and runs free health clinics in Connecticut, will receive $2 million from the OdysseyRe Foundation over the next five years to support its operations.
The foundation, the nonprofit arm of OdysseyRe Holdings Corp. in Stamford, plans to give $1.5 million to support AmeriCares’ health clinics, including the Weisman AmeriCares Free Clinic of Bridgeport and the Bob Macauley AmeriCares Free Clinic of Norwalk. The clinics provide free health care to low-income Fairfield County residents.
The remaining $500,000 will go toward the AmeriCares Emergency Response Program, which aids survivors of natural disasters and emergencies worldwide. AmeriCares in a press release said the funding will allow it to conduct assessments, deploy emergency teams in disaster zones and stock emergency medicines in warehouses in the U.S., Haiti, Europe and India.
