Stamford-based AmeriCares, which runs the AmeriCares Free Clinic of Stamford, now stops at the Boys & Girls Club at 347 Stillwater Ave. on Wednesdays, 2 to 7 p.m., with its new mobile facility.
The AmeriCares free medical treatment program since 1994 has provided 23,000 Fairfield County patients with $57 million in free medical care, the nonprofit reported.
The mobile clinic ”“ a large, converted recreational vehicle that launched in January ”“ is on the road three days a week, providing primary care services to low-income Stamford and Darien residents without health insurance.
The medical vehicle also stops at two other Stamford locations, Neighbors Link on Selleck Street on Tuesdays and Domus on Lockwood Avenue on Thursdays.
The mobile clinic provides medications, lab work and diagnostic testing, all at no cost.
AmeriCares said one out of every five Stamford residents is uninsured, making for 3,000 regular participants in its free medical services. Besides the mobile facility, it runs free clinics in Danbury, Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford.
