Stamford-based AmeriCares on Thursday announced it is sending 12,000 bottles of Clorox bleach to health workers battling the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The Clorox Co. donated the nearly 6,000 gallons of bleach to AmeriCares, a disaster relief and humanitarian aid nonprofit.

“Bleach is one of most urgently needed supplies right now. It is essential for disinfecting safety equipment and sanitizing health facilities,” AmeriCares Vice President of Emergency Response Garrett Ingoglia said from Liberia, where he is overseeing the organization”™s response to the epidemic.
AmeriCares also announced this week it is partnering with the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation, which is providing hypertension medicines for 140 patients in Santiago de Maria, El Salvador. The AmeriCares Family Clinic in Santiago de Maria handles more than 6,000 patient visits each month.
The foundation is the charitable arm of Boehringer Ingelheim, with the subsidiary Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc. based in Ridgefield.
