James R. Wadleigh Jr. was named interim CEO of Access Health CT, the state’s online health insurance exchange, on Wednesday. Kevin J. Counihan, the exchange’s former CEO, accepted a position as the chief executive of the federal marketplace the day before.
Wadleigh, 47, has been the chief information officer at Access Health CT since July 2012. He will begin his new role Sept. 5. Counihan will start in his new position Sept. 8, just more than two months before the next health insurance sign-up period begins on Nov. 15.
Wadleigh’s 25-year career includes experience in information technology across multiple insurance industries, including health care, property casualty, life insurance and annuities.
Before Wadleigh joined Access Health CT, he served as the senior director of the Call Center Application Group at CIGNA Corp.
“We have an important mission to ensure every resident of Connecticut has accessible, affordable health insurance and a great team in place to get the job done,” Wadleigh said in a statement.
