Four Fairfield County companies made this year”™s installment of the Inc. 500, one more than a year earlier ”“ though the fastest-growing local company has since been sold off to a British life-sciences giant.
Advanced BioHealing Inc. and Health Plan One L.L.C. led all Connecticut companies on the Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing companies in the nation, ranking 187 and 188 respectively. Also making the Inc. 500 were Newtown-based Asentra and Danbury-based Kavoo, while Westport-based Ring2 Media just missed at No. 506 on the list.
That was easily enough to place Ring2 Media on the broader Inc. 5000 rankings, among 30 Fairfield County companies to make the cut. Companies self-nominate themselves for the list, with the limited number of businesses that do so producing some Inc. 5000 inclusions that did not achieve spectacular growth ”“ case in point Affinion, a Stamford-based company that squeaked onto the list at No. 4,941 by producing 4 percent growth over three years.
Earlier this year, Westport-based Advanced BioHealing filed for an initial public offering of stock, only to accept a $750 million acquisition offer days later from Shire plc. Advanced BioHealing makes a treatment for diabetic foot ulcers that can cause flesh to slough off the sole. Late last month, Shire said Advanced BioHealing would not proceed with a similar product for venous leg ulcers.
Shelton-based Health Plan One runs a web-based health insurance brokerage for families and small businesses.
Ideeli Inc., a New York City-based dot-com that offers members retail deals, led this year”™s Inc. 500 list by producing sales of $78 million in 2010, compared to its startup total of less than $200,000 just three years before. New York also placed the third- and sixth-ranked companies on the list respectively in C2C Outdoor and Show Media, both advertising and marketing companies.
