Construction on a $18 million building containing both a community health center and 35 apartment units in Bridgeport is now complete.
The building located on Albion Street was a collaboration between the Southwest Community Health Center and the Bridgeport Housing Authority to replace outdated housing and medical buildings in the neighborhood. Viking Construction Inc. built the facility.
“This is the first of its kind in Connecticut and will serve as an example of urban development and public housing for other communities,” said Anthony Gaglio, president of Viking Construction. “We are pleased with the completion of this project and know that it will make a positive difference to local residents.”
The health care facility includes medical offices, a dental clinic and out-patient services. The LEED-certified building also includes green roofs, a Zen garden courtyard, energy-efficient windows and extra insulation in the walls.
