On Thursday, Feb. 9, Jeffrey Beri ”“ founder of No Dogs Left Behind https://nodogsleftbehind.com/ ”“ brought 50 dogs destined for the East Asia meat market to New York City from China. (It was only recently that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, lifted the Covid ban on these animals.) Many of the dogs were met at The Ark, John F. Kennedy International Airport”™s Animal Reception Center, by their new pet parents. Some still need forever homes. But not to fret: Even if some are not fostered or adopted, Beri will take them to the NDLB sanctuary in upstate New York.
On Friday, Feb. 10, Elysian, https://readelysian.com/ a luxury lifestyle brand for women, held its first CatWalk FurBaby fundraiser at Manhattan”™s Sony Hall ”“ kicking off New York Fashion Week 2023 and benefiting 10 animal shelters nationwide. Models wearing ensembles designed by such couturiers as Marc Bouwer, Malan Breton, Karen Caldwell, Anne Fontaine, Gloria Lee, Merci Dupre, Nicole Miller, Noize Apparel, Victor de Souza and Brook Wilder strutted their stuff with four-legged rescue companions, while judges Fern Mallis, Carol Alt and Karen Abercrombie handed out awards to the animal organizations that were paired with each model duo. They included New York”™s Strong Island Animal Rescue League and Global Strays. The event was emceed by Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin, the cofounding president of the creative-networking site SohoMuse. DRC Ventures, a global catalyst for conservation efforts led by Christina Rahm, Ph.D., was the event”™s title sponsor.
