On Sunday, Nov. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m., the Pelham Art Center will celebrate Diwali, a major festival for Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains, who believe that light is a metaphor for knowledge, signifying health, wealth and peace. This year, the multiple-day celebration began on Nov. 12.
The program will include a classical Kathak dance performance by Anindita Ganguly’s Swapna Dance Academy; a Bollywood/fusion dance performance by students of Heena Jain with an interactive component; an Indian magic show by Shreeyash Palshikar, Ph.D.; and a hands-on art project where you can craft your own bejeweled paper diya, representing sakshi, the divine inner light.
The event is free. The center is at 155 Fifth Ave., Pelham. For more, call 914-738-2525 or pelhamcenter.org.
