From food to fashion to kiddie fun, The Westchester in White Plains is welcoming new and returning stores. We popped in on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 21, for the grand opening of Talbots, which has actually returned to the mall and with it the company’s signature casual chic looks at mid-range prices for those of us of a certain, ahem, vintage – a demographic often overlooked in fashion today.
Also returning after an eighth-month refresh is Casper, offering bedding, linens and related products in a space with a soothing pink, blue and white palate. We were happy to play Goldilocks – or maybe it was more the Princess and the Pea – and try out the various mattresses, including the Wave Hybrid (soft, cushy but firm). For those looking for what was described as “a warm hug,” there’s the Nova Hybrid and for those who don’t want a warm hug, there are the Snow and the Wave Hybrid Snow. Prices for a queen-size, generally what people are looking for, range from $1,295 to $3,395. The store can also accommodate twin, full and king beds but not in every style.
Of course, no visit to old and new faces would be complete without a trip to Venchi, the Italian chocolatier. It was a tough assignment but we forced ourselves to have a small Cremino (hazelnut gelato with chocolate spread) – delicious. We also bought a vintage mini book in with assorted chocolates that we can’t wait to dive into.
