Melissa Errico”“ a Bronxville resident who embodies the French word for singer, “chanteuse” ”“ evokes the sexy, gritty world of 1940s and ”™50s film noir with a series of concerts at Manhattan”™s Birdland Jazz Club Feb. 10 through 14.
“A Noir Romance” was inspired by her new album, “Out of the Dark: The Film Noir Project,” a 17-song cycle that tells a story of hope, despair and hope renewed. (A limited-edition vinyl version was also recently released). Errico”™s selections reach from noir classics, such as the title songs for the movies “Laura” and “The Bad and The Beautiful,” into the French chansons of the 1950s and ”™60s, all the way to the present with contemporary extensions of the noir sensibility. The Birdland run comes after her Carnegie Hall debut in November and a sold-out holiday concert series in Los Angeles with Jon Lovitz and pianist Randy Waldman (also arranger/pianist for Barbra Streisand for 35 years).
The Birdland shows are at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Feb. 10 through 12 and 8:30 p.m. Feb. 13 and 14. As well as a 5:30 p.m. show on Feb. 14. Birdland is at 315 W. 44th St.
