Bronx-born Samara Joy, a rising American singer who won two Grammy Awards Sunday, Feb. 5, for Best New Artist and Best Vocal Jazz Album, is among those who will be honored by ArtsWestchester at its April 19 Arts Awards luncheon at Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase.
The other winners include:
- ”¯”¯”¯”¯Carole Alexis ”“ founding director”¯of Ballet des Amériques in White Plains, choreographer and dance educator;
- ”¯ Georgette Gouveia ”“ Westfair Communications Inc.”™s longtime cultural writer and luxury editor and author of The Games Men Play blog and book series https://www.thegamesmenplay.com/ on the power dynamic in culture;
- ”¯”¯”¯”¯Farooq Kathwari”¯– president and CEO of Ethan Allen Global Inc. https://www.wagmag.com/most-comfortable-surroundings/ in Danbury, a New Rochelle resident who has pursued artistic excellence and social justice throughout his career;
- ”¯”¯”¯”¯The Picture House Regional Film Center”¯in Pelham and Bronxville, bringing the best of filmmaking to Westchester County;
- ”¯”¯”¯”¯Westchester Children’s Chorus”¯in Larchmont, recognized for its choral education and performance opportunities for students from grades 1 through 12.
Two additional awards will be announced at the event:
- ”¯”¯”¯”¯The Advancing Equity Award recognizes an individual artist and a nonprofit cultural organization serving residents of Westchester and demonstrating exemplary leadership in advancing social justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility through and in the arts.
- ”¯”¯”¯”¯The Larry Salley Photography Award was established in 2018 by ArtsWestchester, the African American Men of Westchester and the Salley family to celebrate the life and artistic achievements of Lawrence”¯“Larry” C. Salley, an active member of the Westchester community.
