GO2 for Lung Cancer has launched a public service announcement campaign timed with National Lung Cancer Awareness Month that features actor, producer and director Tony Goldwyn (“Oppenheimer,” the upcoming “Ezra”).
Scion of a legendary filmmaking family, Goldwyn, a longtime Connecticut resident who has also served as a spokesman for Stamford-based Americares, has a personal connection to lung cancer, having lost his mother, actress-artist Jennifer Howard, to the disease at the age of 68. “When I lost my mother to lung cancer in 1993, she didn’t have many options,” Goldwyn said in a statement. “That’s why I am so passionate about making people aware of lung cancer’s impact and the lifesaving support GO2 provides.”
“We are so grateful to Tony for his help with our national awareness campaign,” said Laurie Ambrose, president and CEO of GO2 for Lung Cancer. “As he mentions in the PSA, lung cancer is the single largest cancer killer. It claims more lives than breast, ovarian and prostate cancers combined.”
“Lung cancer is also the leading cause of cancer death among women,” Ambrose continued. “It is estimated that 164 women die of the disease daily – one woman every 8.8 minutes. Yet this hidden women’s cancer is the least funded cancer of all the major cancers in terms of research dollars per death.”
GO2 has a long history of providing one-on-one assistance, supportive connections, treatment information and finding the best care close to home. It is also the place to go to learn about the latest research that increases survivorship.
Added Ambrose: “We know our work with Tony will allow us to continue relentlessly confronting lung cancer on every front, every day, for everyone.”
