Waste Free Greenwich invites the community to the 5th annual ReThink Waste Fair on Saturday, April 18th from 11am-3pm at the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich. This engaging, family-friendly event empowers residents to explore creative ways to “rethink” waste through the 6Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle and Rot.
“The ReThink Waste Fair demonstrates that there’s a better way than throw away!” says Julie DesChamps, founder and chair of Waste Free Greenwich. “This event is all about fun, simple ways to live sustainably – from recycling food scraps and choosing reusables to exploring new skills like ‘scrappy cooking’ and mending.”
The fair spotlights a curated selection of earth friendly vendors and interactive exhibits designed to
inspire a low-waste lifestyle. Browse the eco-marketplace, featuring upcycled accessories, sustainable kitchen wares and clean, low waste beauty products. Community partners will share practical tips and information and offer children’s activities, simple clothing repairs, composting demo, and much more. First Selectman Fred Camillo will issue an Earth Day Proclamation, and the Greenwich Sustainability
Committee will announce the recipients of the annual Sustainability Awards. A series of mini demonstrations scheduled throughout the afternoon will highlight plastic-free solutions for the home, clothing repair basics, reducing our kitchen “foodprint”, recycling right and even student research on plastic-eating enzymes!
The fair also features a drive for a host of hard-to-recycle items, like plastic film, textiles and batteries, as
well as donations for our neighbors in need. Drop off phones for Cell Phones for Soldiers and eyeglasses
for the Greenwich Lions Club. New and gently used school supplies will be collected for the Boys and
Girls Club of Greenwich, and trial size toiletries will be donated to New Covenant Center. Please visit the
website for a full list of accepted items and donation guidelines.
This is an indoor event with a suggested donation of $5 for a chance to win raffle prizes. Residents are
encouraged to register in advance. For registration and further information, visit
