On two consecutive weekends, March 28-30 and April 4-6, Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) in Ossining will present Box Spring: A Festival of One-Act Plays, a trio of compelling pieces having their premiere productions at the company’s black box theater located at 23 Water Street.
Alan Lutwin, executive director of WCT, says, “As we enter our 15th year, we are ready to break new ground by introducing a thought-provoking powerhouse of plays written by some of the region’s most esteemed local playwrights, writers who are willing to take risks. Each piece is sure to have a bright future following its debut here. The ensemble of writers, directors and actors we’ve gathered for this production are topnotch. I’m confident that audiences will find this a memorable offering.”
The plays are:
Gabriela by Giovanni Pucci (Congers), directed by Missy Flower (Ossining)-
Grant’s Tomb, New York City. Three friends meet at night. What they discover there could change them forever. Featuring: Anne Glickman (Croton on Hudson), Nick Nazario (Cortlandt), Hassan Akua (Monroe), Jessica Valente (Brewster), Rofa Abayon (Katonah), and Robert Santiago.
Never Wild by Evelyn Mertens (Briarcliff Manor), directed by Mario Giacalone (Croton on Hudson) –
When a ‘good girl’ who follows the rules crosses the line, the consequences could be monumental– it all depends on whether secrets emerge or stay silent. Featuring Sandy Rooney (Dobbs Ferry) and Adam Black (Tarrytown).
A Leave of Absence by Joni Fritz (Peekskill), directed by Julia LaVerde (Irvington) –
A sister and brother return to their mother’s home the morning of their father’s bizarre funeral, triggering buried resentments and surprising revelations. Featuring Benna Strober (Bedford Hills), Laura Kramer (Ossining) and Dan Slavin (Briarcliff Manor.)
The stage manager is Allison Schneider (New City); Kim Chandler (New Rochelle) is the audio operator, Dan Forman (Yorktown Heights) is the lighting operator. The playwrights, directors, actors and crew are all members of WCT.
Performances will be Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29 and April 4 and 5 at 8 pm; Saturday, March 29 and April 5 at 2 pm; Sunday, March 30 and April 6 at 3 pm. Tickets, $25, $20 for WCT members, students and seniors can be purchased online. (Limited seating available; advance purchase is strongly recommended.)

Westchester Collaborative Theater is a multicultural, cooperative theater company located in Ossining, NY, dedicated to developing new work for the stage and bringing live theater to the community.
