Experience the Katonah Museum of Art’s new exhibition, Ali Banisadr: The Alchemist before it opens to the public! The first major U.S. museum survey of contemporary artist Ali Banisadr, this landmark exhibition encompasses nearly twenty years of the artist’s singular practice. Banisadr creates complex, turbulent worlds rich with references from across art, history, philosophy, world events, and mythology – as well as references to our own tempestuous times. An illustrated catalogue, distributed by Yale University Press, accompanies the exhibition.
Light refreshments will be served during the First Look Private Reception.
If registering for the Press Preview on Saturday, March 15, kindly indicate if you will be attending the Press Preview, the First Look Private Reception, or both.
The exhibition and publication are made possible with support from the Katherine C. and David E. In the Pollack Family Learning Center:
The Artist’s Laboratory
Come experiment and play in The Artist’s Laboratory at The Pollack Family Learning Center! Family visitors will experience an art-making space inspired by elements of magic, science, and wonder present in the artist Ali Banisadr’s work. Much like an artist, an alchemist seeks to change ordinary materials into something extraordinary. Ali Banisadr is deeply captivated by this idea, weaving it into the complex worlds he creates.
Dive deeply into the materials and processes in Ali Banisadr: The Alchemist by exploring unconventional painting tools and musical mark-making, experimenting with tracing layers of art history, and constructing sculptural creatures to add to our collaborative exhibition wall!
