Join Habitat CFC for the next CEO Speaker Series event:

Celebrating Black History Month with 2025 Keynote Speaker

Don C. Sawyer III, Ph.D. from Fairfield University

In celebration of Black History Month, Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County (Habitat CFC) is pleased to host its next CEO Speaker Series virtual event on Zoom. Community members are invited to join an engaging, uplifting, and inspiring conversation with 2025 Keynote Speaker Don C. Sawyer III, Ph.D. The event will take place on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and will be moderated by Carolyn Vermont, Chief Executive Officer of Habitat CFC.

Don C. Sawyer III, Ph.D., is a Harlem native and first-generation college graduate. He is the Vice President for Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging and an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Fairfield University. Throughout his career, Dr. Sawyer has been a strong advocate for educational equity and social justice. His work extends to Connecticut State prisons where he teaches sociology and supports individuals transitioning from incarceration.

“We are honored to have Dr. Sawyer join us for an engaging conversation,” stated Carolyn Vermont, CEO of Habitat CFC. “His commitment to creating opportunities for marginalized communities is reflected in his leadership, research, and advocacy. His unique approach, particularly through hip-hop culture, has provided meaningful opportunities and empowerment for youth. The #HipHopHeals Project and his community work educating future leaders here in Connecticut as well as in the Dominican Republic and Haiti can inspire us all to help foster growth and transformation within ourselves and for others.”

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history.

This free virtual event is open to the public. Register today to be part of the conversation by visiting HabitatCFC.org/events.
