On April 3 the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) published its Quarter 2 Newsletter, which can be read in its entirety by clicking here.
Of particular note is the provision of up to $1.2 million per year by PURA to help stakeholders attend meetings they would otherwise not be able to. The funds were authorized by Public Act 23-102 “An Act Strengthening Protections for Connecticut’s Consumers of Energy” and allows for up to $300,000 to be provided for specific stakeholders in matters being discussed by PURA to attend discussions and maintain a presence.
“This important provision will help stakeholders, who otherwise do not have the financial resources or time necessary to participate in PURA proceedings, ensure that their experiences and needs are represented before the Authority,” the newsletter reads. “Stakeholder groups eligible for this funding include those representing residential customers who live in environmental justice communities, residential financial hardship customers, small business customers, or nonprofits representing any of those groups.”
The newsletter also provides updates on major decisions that occurred in the first quarter of 2024 such as penalties imposed on United Illuminating and Eversource for accidents, plans to advance grid modernization goals, and findings regarding water regulations. It also notes the return of a workshop series and provides an outline of all upcoming PURA meetings.
