Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy took an unprecedented step in publicly celebrating the resignation of a federal official: in this case, the resignation of Scott Pruitt as administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
“This is long overdue,” said Malloy in a statement issued by his office following yesterday’s announcement by President Trump of Pruitt’s resignation. “Scott Pruitt”™s consistent, breathtaking pattern of corruption is trumped only by his utter disregard for environmental protection. He will no doubt go down as the worst administrator in EPA history.”
Malloy”™s relationship with the EPA under Pruitt”™s leadership was litigious, with Connecticut joining New York in a lawsuit to force the agency to comply with the Clean Air Act”™s requirement to control the smog pollution from upwind states that has permeated the region. But Malloy was not happy to have Andrew Wheeler replacing Pruitt as interim EPA chief.
“While his resignation is certainly welcome news, his replacement ”“ at least for the time being ”“ is a former lobbyist for the coal industry,” Malloy added. “In short, states like Connecticut must continue to step up to fight against the effects of climate change and protect our communities.”
