WWE (NYSE: WWE) will not be presenting its WrestleMania 40 until next spring, but the event has already broken the company”™s all-time gate record in one day.
WrestleMania 40, which takes place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia from April 6-7, sold more than 90,000 tickets when it went on sale last Friday. The previous total gross record of $21.6 million was set earlier this year at WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The new record gate for WrestleMania 40 follows the financial performance generated by the Stamford-based company”™s SummerSlam, which emanated from Ford Field in Detroit earlier this month and generated a $8.5 million gate, the largest for any non-WrestleMania event.
However, WWE added that limited tickets for WrestleMania 40 are still available via TicketMaster.com.
