Bridgeport”™s St. Patrick”™ Day parade is returning for first time since 2019. However, the March 17 event is being held on a new route.
Since its first iteration in 1983, the parade has traditionally been held in the city”™s downtown. For this year”™s event, the parade will be conducted on Fairfield Avenue in the city”™s Black Rock section ”“ starting at noon at the Burroughs Community Center at the corner of Ellsworth Street and ending. at the corner of Courtland Avenue. Neither the city nor the parade”™s organizer, The Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick”™s Celebration Committee, explained why the route was changed.
“The St. Patrick”™s Day Parade”™s return to Bridgeport after three years is a welcoming sign that life has resumed in Bridgeport,” said Mayor Joe Ganim in a press statement. “It is a great time for the Irish community and for all Bridgeport residents to enjoy and celebrate the diverse ethnic pride we have in our city.”
