Ridgefield”™s Thrown Stone”™s theater is open its 2023 season with the world premiere of Tammy Ryan’s “Seven Cousins for a Horse.”
Originally commissioned in 2020, play dramatizes the life of Connecticut-born Ammi Phillips (1788-1865), a prolific folk artist who specialized in bold and brightly colored portraits of everyday people, including farmers, businessmen, and their families. The play takes place in 1848 with the artist being commissioned to paint cousins, the Kinney family, who can only offer payment with a strong horse.
The play will be directed by Thrown Stone”™s Co-Artistic Director Jonathan Winn, with the cast and creative team to be announced soon. The opening night is scheduled for July 14 at the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance and tickets will go on sale May 8.
“We”™ve put three years of passionate work into this play and we are elated to present the world premiere in Ammi Phillips”™s home state,” said Winn.
