The eyes of the world will be on London this Saturday for the coronation of King Charles III. And for those who are not able to attend in person, the event will be televised and livestreamed around the world.
Seventy years ago, broadcast technology did not accommodate a global presentation of the coronation of the king’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II. However, film producer J. Arthur Rank brought Technicolor cameras to the queen’s coronation, which resulted in the film “A Queen is Crowned.” With a script by Christopher Fry that was narrated by Sir Laurence Olivier, “A Queen is Crowned” was an immensely popular film on both sides of the Atlantic and earned an Academy Award nomination as Best Documentary Feature.
