The 1926 silent film classic “Beverly of Graustark” starring the iconic Marion Davies will have a rare big screen presentation on March 29 at 8:00 p.m. at Wesleyan University”™s College of Film and the Moving Image in Middletown, Connecticut.
“Beverly of Graustark” finds Davies is an American college student whose cousin Oscar (Creighton Hale) is a prince and heir to the throne of mythical European kingdom of Graustark. In a wild plot, she winds up impersonating her cousin to prevent a palace coup, but also falls in love with a handsome goat-herd (Antonio Moreno). A gender-bending romp with a raucous chase, a thrilling swordfight and an invigorating performance by its legendary star, “Beverly of Graustark” is presented in a Library of Congress restoration.
Also on the program is the short film “No Publicity,” another rarely-seen comedy starring a young Edward Everett Horton. The films will be show with live musical accompaniment from Visiting Professor of Film Studies Ben Model, who is one of the most prominent composers and performers of silent film scores.
