The New York Power Authority July 2 approved a $30 million fund to advance development and the commercialization of new energy efficient technologies, products and services.
The grants will be disbursed over a five-year period under NYPA”™s new Energy Efficiency Market Acceleration Program.
Sources with knowledge of the program said the grants will likely be made available through competitive requests for proposals (RFPs) that will be issued starting later this year.
Companies eligible to compete for the funds may include research institutions, technology development companies, nonprofits and technology consultants.
Various public entities, such as schools districts, public hospitals, municipalities and other public agencies, are expected to be eligible to compete for funding under any future RFPs as well, sources said.
NYPA President and CEO Gil C. Quiniones said in a statement that the program will “advance New York”™s technology leadership in this important industry and create clean energy jobs throughout the state.”
Based in White Plains, NYPA is a public benefit corporation and is among the largest public power providers in the U.S.
Under Gov. Andrew Cuomo”™s Power NY agenda, NYPA will also finance $450 million in cost-effective, energy efficiency projects over the next four years.
