So far this year General Electric Co. has received orders for enough new wind turbines to power 330,000 homes and take one million cars off the road, the company announced May 6.
With a new federal production tax credit in place as of Jan. 1, the company has processed orders for a gigawatt worth of new wind turbines. Details of where the turbines will be located were not disclosed.
The company, based in Fairfield, plans to use both of its new wind turbine models, which help manage wind variability and can produce more power than previous models.
“We”™ve had incredible response from customers following the introduction of our brilliant wind turbine platform and game-changing short-term energy storage capabilities,” said Anne McEntee, vice president of GE”™s renewable energy business, in a statement. “I”™m thrilled to be joining the wind industry and look forward to driving GE”™s technology leadership further in this space.”
