According to AAA data released this morning, the nationwide average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.86, up from last month”™s average of $3.58. One year ago, the average was $3.90; the record high was $5.01 set on June 14, 2022.
In Connecticut, the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.82, the second highest for the New England states ”“ Maine”™s $3.84 was the highest. The price is up from last month”™s average of $3.62; the price was $4.03 one year ago. Fairfield County”™s $3.86 average is the highest for the state”™s counties.
In New York, the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.92, the highest for the entire Northeast region. The price is up from last month”™s average of $3.68; the price was $4.25 one year ago. Within the Hudson Valley region, Westchester has the highest average at $3.99 and Sullivan County had the lowest at $3.87.
California had the highest statewide average at $5.25 and Mississippi had the lowest at $3.31.
“The heat is returning, and we are also entering the heart of hurricane season,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “While fewer drivers are fueling up at the moment, these looming weather concerns are a roadblock to falling pump prices. Gas Prices may keep waffling until mid-September or longer.”
