As part of a $42 million program heading this summer, Northeast Utilities is again using helicopter-borne infrared scanners to inspect any threats to transmission lines feeding into substations.
In addition to inspections and work to increase circuit capacity across the state, Northeast Utilities subsidiary Connecticut Light & Power Co. has worked extensively on Fairfield County infrastructure, including:
Ӣ Installing and replacing transformers for Greenwich and Newtown;
Ӣ Commissioning a new substation in Westport;
Ӣ Upgrading underground systems in Stamford, Greenwich and Norwalk;
CL&P expects to spend $174 million on transmission capital expenditures this year.
