Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp. reported that its customers in the mid-Hudson River Valley region saved $5 million on monthly bills since the utility launched its Home Energy Reports program in 2011.
The report provides information, analysis and tips on how to improve energy efficiency and reduce monthly electricity charges.
The program has saved Central Hudson customers more than 35,000 megawatt-hours of electricity and 3 million therms of natural gas, which is enough to power more than 4,700 homes with electricity and heat 2,600 homes with natural gas for one year.
The Home Energy Reports are sent to approximately 110,00 residential users with tips on how to save energy. The report details the electric and natural gas usage of each resident and compares their usage to neighboring households, which provides customers with an idea of how much they’re using and gives clearly defined steps on how to monitor usage. Customers also have access to an interactive web portal that helps them review energy efficiency tips, conduct an automated 30-second home energy audit and develop a savings plan.
Central Hudson is a regulated transmission and distribution utility that serves about 300,000 electric customers and 75,000 natural gas customers in New York State’s Mid-Hudson River Valley. Its services extend from the suburbs of metropolitan New York City north to the Capital District at Albany.
