Mystic Seaport Museum will be offering the three-day course “Introduction to Coast Navigation,” which is designed to familiarize novice seafarers with ability to travel along coastlines.
The course will offer an in-depth approach to determining your nautical position using charts and features on the water and ashore, including an introduction to latitude and longitude. Participants will also learn how to interpret nautical chart symbols, chart height and depth information, plot courses and bearings, and compute their speed, time and distance. Also included are lessons in basic planning for a passage.
The course will be held on three consecutive Saturdays ”“ April 8, 15 and 23 ”“ from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the museum in Mystic, Connecticut. Registration is $120 for museum members and $135 for non-members. More information is available on the museum”™s website.
