Westport was selected recently as among the top 15 “Economic Power Towns” in the nation by a Texas storage company.
SpareFoot”™s new list of the Top 15 Economic Power Towns in America places Westport No. 8. Nearby Armonk, N.Y., was No. 6 and Rye, N.Y., was 13.
A town must be home to a Fortune 500 company to qualify for the list. Westport and equipment maker Terex made the grade, as did IBM and Armonk and Jarden and Rye.
To draw up its winners, SpareFoot analyzed more than 120 towns with 50,000 residents (or fewer) with at least one Fortune 500 company.
McLean, Va., a suburb of Washington, D.C., topped the list, followed by:

∙ Franklin Lakes, N. J.;
∙ Warren, N.J.;
∙ Armonk;
∙ Des Peres, Mo.;
∙ Westport;

∙ Lake Forest, Ill.; and

SpareFoot analyzed characteristics that included:
∙ home ownership rate;
∙ median household income;
∙ local unemployment rate;
∙ percentage of residents living in poverty;
∙ ratio of median home value to median income; and
∙ median value of owner-occupied homes.
