Businesses offer hospitality in wake of Irene
JPMorgan Chase said it will commit $200,000 to the American Red Cross to assist with cleanup efforts following Tropical Storm Irene.
The Greater New York chapter is set to receive $100,000; the other $100,000 will go toward national relief efforts.
The JPMorgan Chase Foundation recently allotted $500,000 to storm-hit Alabama and Missouri after tornadoes touched down; another $250,000 went toward drought-relief in Africa.
Buffalo-based M&T Bank, which has branches throughout the mid-Hudson region, said it will donate $50,000 to the American Red Cross and match all employee contributions made to the Red Cross, up to $50,000.
Beyond banks, area businesses stepped in and accommodated displaced or powerless residents. The Gym on Business Park Drive in Armonk and Putnam National Golf Club in Mahopac opened their showers and locker rooms to the public.
