In an encouraging bit of news, the Connecticut Department of Labor reports that unemployment rates decreased in all 169 cities and towns in the state in 2015.
Of the five largest cities in the state with a 2010 Census population of 100,000 or more, Stamford had the
lowest unemployment rate in 2015 of 4.6 percent. Hartford had the highest jobless rate, at 10.4 percent, followed by Waterbury (9.3 percent), Bridgeport (8.7 percent) and New Haven (7.5 percent). Norwalk’s jobless rate in 2015 was 4.8 percent, while Greenwich’s was 4.1 percent. Canaan posted the largest decrease, from 5.5 percent in 2014 to 3.6 percent in 2015.
The annual average Connecticut unemployment rate in 2015 was 5.6 percent, down from 6.6 percent in 2014. All told, 132 cities and towns had jobless rates below the statewide figure of 5.6 percent.
The U.S. unemployment rate currently stands at 5.0 percent.
