Connecticut added 3,700 jobs in October, a 0.2% uptick to a level of 1.69 million, according to new data from the state’s Department of Labor.
The preliminary September gain of 3,200 positions was revised higher by 500 to 3,700 jobs and the Connecticut unemployment rate stayed at its post-Covid low of 3.5%. During October, Connecticut’s private Sector employment increased by 3,600 (0.2%) to 1.46 million and the government supersector inched up by 100 to a level of 231,700 jobs.
Within Fairfield County, the Greater Danbury area added 100 jobs and the Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk corridor shed 300 positions.
“Connecticut added jobs in eight of the ten months of 2023 so far, private sector employment is now at an all-time high, and the unemployment rate remains very low” said Patrick Flaherty, director of the Office of Research at the Connecticut Department of Labor. “Growth has come from a wide range of industries, but it is worth noting that the Health Care & Social Assistance sector, which contracted sharply at the beginning of the pandemic, is now more than fully recovered.”
