Zumtobel Lighting Inc. will invest $6.4 million in its LED manufacturing and distribution facility in Highland, where the company has committed to keep at least 200 jobs for at least seven years, state economic development officials announced Wednesday.
Officials at Empire State Development said Zumtobel, a subsidiary of the Austrian lighting company Zumtobel Group AG, will invest in research and development of next-generation lighting fixtures, connected lighting solutions, employee training and factory upgrades at its Americas Division headquarters in the Ulster County hamlet.
Empire State Development will provide up to $1.2 million in performance-based grants and tax incentives to the company, including a $900,000 Regional Council Capital Fund grant and $290,000 in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits. The state incentives are contingent on Zumtobel carrying through its $6.4 million investment and maintaining a minimum of 202 jobs at the plant at 3300 Route 9W.
The company must also contract with minority and woman-owned businesses for at least 30 percent of its factory upgrade work.
ESD officials said the state”™s support of the project was recommended by the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council.
Zumtobel Lighting Inc. CEO Kevin Maddy said the company is investing in development of the North American and South American market and will expand its product lines at Highland along with manufacturing, assembly and distribution capabilities.
