Westport is ready for its close-up.
The Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce will publish a new membership and visitor”™s guide for 2015. The front cover photo will be determined by a competition.
“It has been five years since there has been a new visitor”™s guide; it”™s time for a new one,” chamber Executive Director Matthew Mandell said in a press release. “To make the publication even more about and a part of the town we want a photo taken by a resident to grace the front cover. So we are holding a contest.”
The new guide, to be published in early spring, will feature an upgraded pullout map, a focus on Westport”™s restaurant scene and a section emphasizing the arts. “This is all in addition to highlighting our businesses, which make our community a great place to work, live and visit,” the chamber said in the press release.
“I am pleased that the reinvigorated WWCC is undertaking a new visitor”™s guide,” First Selectman Jim Marpe said in the press release. “My administration is working closely with the business community to help our town maintain its strong business environment. The new guide will be a great complement to our many other ongoing efforts to improve and enhance Westport’s downtown and beyond.”
The photo contest is open to anyone “who has an eye for that special shot that represents the best of the town.” The winning photo, to be selected by the chamber’s board of directors, will be on the front of the guide as well as the front of the map. They will be presented together and independently and distributed around town. Runner-up photos will be used throughout the guide, with the names of the photographers published.
“This is a good time to become a member of the chamber and take advantage of being in the guide,” said Jonathan Baron, chairman of the board of the WWCC. “I”™m looking forward to being a judge of the photo contest. It”™s just another way we”™re trying to bring our community and businesses together.”
Photographers can submit their photos to the chamber until Feb. 15. Email entries to contest@westportwestonchamber.com, with the subject line “photo contest.” Winners will be notified in March.
