A public hearing will be held Sept. 20, allowing community input about building a private development in place of Stamford’s commuter parking garage near the Metro-North and Amtrack train station.
The more than 700 parking spaces would be moved up to a quarter mile away from the station. Currently it is about 100 feet away.
“There has been zero commuter input sought or accepted by the Connecticut Department of Transportation on this plan so far,” said Jim Cameron, Connecticut Rail Commuter Council chairman, in a press release. “We do not understand how such a major project affecting so many riders can be undertaken in a closed-door process by the CDOT without asking commuters what they would like.”
The proposed development to replace the garage is a one million-square-foot, mixed-use tower with housing, office space and retail stores. It’s been estimated that the building would require 2,000 parking spaces.
The public hearing will be held at Stamford High School at 7 p.m.
