Rally cries can be heard in Stamford. Reinventing Stamford project, which has been under way via the Urban Redevelopment Commission for the past year, has come to a pivotal juncture.
The committee, which met on March 10, called upon the public to help start implementing four initiative projects.
The four initiatives ”“ Finding Opportunity in Emerging Conditions; Creating an Innovation-Capable Workforce; Building a Creative Habitat; and Expanding Regional Networks ”“ were developed during the seven 2009 Reinventing Stamford town meetings.
The Stamford Partnership, the Stamford Urban Redevelopment Commission, the city of Stamford”™s office of economic development and the Stamford Planning Board co-hosted the sessions.
“We want to get to the core question of how the city can continue to be a place where people want to come to live and work,” said Kathleen Walsh, president and CEO of Stamford Partnership Inc.
Walsh said the strategy lays a foundation for long-term economic growth, energy efficiency, environmental quality and reduced economic disparity. ?”There are a lot of strengths we have to build on, but it can’t happen all at once,” said Kip Bergstrom, executive director of the Urban Redevelopment Commission. “It’s a matter of getting people to contribute so we can build on these assets to exploit Stamford’s future. It’s not so much about talking to the right people as it is getting the right people talking.”?At the March 10 forum, four groups were organized and given the task of identify ”˜goldmines”™ and ”˜landmines”™ for the work of each action team. Duane Hill, chairman of the Stamford Planning Board, served as moderator.?Bergstrom said the steering will continue to be working collaboratively to exploit the opportunities that emerge from the more than year-long civic conversation.
