A cadre of state power players will meet as a new cabinet serving Gov. Eliot Spitzer on issues of smart growth. The move became official Dec. 10 via executive order.
Policymakers signing on include representatives from the Empire State Development Corp.; the Department of Environmental Conservation; the Department of Transportation; the Department of State; and the Department of Housing and Community Renewal.
In 2007, Spitzer committed $2 million to smart growth initiatives and studies. The “Lower Hudson Valley Smart Growth Grant” from that money could help communities plan for changes in the vicinities of Stewart International Airport, Route 17 and the Tappan Zee Bridge corridor.
