I.B. Cohen, the New Rochelle menswear store and family business that dates back more than a century, has re-launched as Cohen’s Consignment.
The store offers new old stock men’s clothing from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s as well as resale items including paintings and sculptures, antiques, jewelry and vintage clothing.
A grand opening reception will be held Oct. 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the store, which is located at 525 Main St. in New Rochelle. The short program will include a ribbon cutting, discussion of trends in the resale industry and updates on the revitalization of the downtown area of the city.
Cohen’s Conisgnment President Lewis Cohen said he was excited about the re-launch, adding that past shoppers include Lou Gehrig and Norman Rockwell.
“I see Cohen’s Conisgnment as a continuation of our past success and a new opportunity to give clients what they need and want,” he said.
Cohen’s Conisgnment proprietor Richard Cohen, who manages the day-to-day operations with his mother, Maryce Cohen, said shoppers who bring in items for evaluation and pricing will receive a percentage of the resale price if they are resold.
“We want to have something for everyone and almost every occasion,” Richard Cohen said. “We hope to attract shoppers who are economically and culturally diverse; modern and savvy, young and old, and trendy and traditional.”
Israel Benjamin Cohen, a Lithuanian immigrant, opened his first clothing store in Mamaroneck in 1890. The New Rochelle location opened in 1900.
Cohen’s Consignment is open Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
