In June, General Electric Co. assembled an “exploratory team” to look at moving its headquarters out of Connecticut after lawmakers passed a budget that included tax increases viewed by business leaders as unfavorable to GE and some of the state’s biggest corporations.
In an email widely disseminated at the time, GE CEO Jeff Immelt said he had asked the group to explore options to relocate GE”™s headquarters to a state with a “more pro-business environment.”
Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York apparently got the message. He recently crossed the border, reportedly to try to lure GE from Connecticut, joining states including Georgia and Texas that have also been courting the company.
The politically themed website Politico said Cuomo paid a visit to GE”™s Fairfield offices July 30 to discuss with top executives a potential relocation to Westchester County.
